Medication Assisted Therapy Addictions Counselor

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the planning and delivery of addictions counseling, education and support to inmates of Essex County Correctional Facility (ECCF) who are receiving treatment services related to substance abuse disorder and the medication assisted therapy program, promoting healthy lifestyles and choices.

Responsibilities

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
  • Provides drug and alcohol counseling to inmate patients with a history of substance abuse disorder and/or in the facility's medication assisted therapy (MAT) program
  • Provides education and support on the subject of addiction.
  • Develops and distributes literature on addiction, healthy lifestyles and healthy choices.
  • Assists individuals to identify their need for treatment programs.
  • Assists inmates to meet requirements of the programs.
  • Provides treatment referrals as required.
  • Selects constructive activities suited to the individual's physical capacity, intelligence level and interest to upgrade the individual to maximum independence
  • Counsels on a personal and group levels.
  • Appropriately provides documentation in the Medical Records any changes in the inmates' functioning, the occurrence of critical incidents, group counseling & individual counseling, services provided.
  • Maintains regular contact with the supervisor
  • Assumes personal responsibility for ongoing professional growth and development
  • Assist in development, support and progress of addiction counselling services for the MAT participants/program.
  • Maintain accurate progress notes and data identifying needs, strengths and gaps in services.
  • Accomplish timely and appropriate intervention of MAT inmate patients.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with all applicable parties (e.g., social work, medical, security).
  • Deliver care in a nonjudgmental/nondiscriminatory manner to protect the autonomy, dignity and rights of the patient
  • Understand and comply with confidentiality, safety and security rules and regulations of the institution.
  • Complies with the employment standards of CFG Health Systems and the applicable standards of the facility
  • Complies with the time and attendance policies of CFG Health Systems. This includes he use of the Swipe System and timely submission of time sheets
  • Adheres to his/her work schedule as coordinated by Health Services Administrator.
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIRMENTS: � - Minimum of Bachelor�s Degree in Counseling. Addiction counseling preferred - Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor or working towards certification - CPR Certification required. � The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
